He is a US Army Veteran and a graduate cum laude of the University of North Carolina, Pembroke with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. After completing his college education in 1969, he served with the United States General Accounting Office, under the Comptroller General of The United States in Washington, DC.
